Venue update
Heres the latest on venues...
Lots of people have said that RISC would be good - unfortunately they can't do anything on Tuesday nights (unless there will be fewer than 10 of us). People who have come back to me (from the bulk mailing that @drinksinreading did) saying that they can accomodate us on the 10th are....
- Copa (downstairs)
- Ivory Lounge
- Wee Waif (but too far out of town- imo)
- Forbury (but too posh - imo)
- Ha Ha's
Its been a while since I've been to some of these so would really appreciate your comments / opinions on which way we should go.

Wouldn't we need a venue with a fairly big presenting area? Also wouldn't we require WiFi?

I've not been downstairs at Copa - but I'd vote against the Ivory Lounge - while the upstairs part is a nice size, it'll be very hard for everyone to hear the presenter etc, and with it being a very public place it's quite loud, even in the private area.
In town is quite a key thing, so that's a good point with Wee Waif. Forbury might be good, but only if it's informal enough of a setting.
There's my two-cents!

Two places I thought of, which are probably not runners:
- Rising Sun Arts Centre: busy on Tuesdays
- 21 South Street seems to have a very varied programme which might mean we could only book Tuesdays now and then
There's also the Town Hall and the Hexagon. The TH has lots of rooms, but I have no idea how available they are out of working hours. It also has the Three Bs. The Hexagon might have a room or two standing empty.
I'm thinking about non-bars on the grounds we'll need relative quiet so we can generate our noise in peace ;-)

Copa - Nice venue, lots of room downstairs, not sure if there is a suitable wall for projecting, but maybe they have a projector screen - or someone else does?
Ivory lounge - As above, can be pretty noisy as the upstairs is just a mezzanine level.
Wee Waif - agreed, town centre is definitely the only real option.
Forbury - never actually been in, but from what I understand is fairly plush. If they serve beer at normal prices then I'd have no objection.
Ha Ha - I am assuming that they would allow us the upstairs, which like Ivory Lounge will suffer from the same problem with noise as its not segregated from the rest of the venue.

Copa say they have a white wall that we can project on to, but we would have to supply our own projector.
I've only been to one event at the forbury and a miniscule coffee was about £3.50! Plus it was too "hotelly" & formal for this kind of event. Didn't feel very relaxed there, so it wouldn't be my first choice.

In that case Jim, I reckon Copa gets my vote then.

I second (third?) Copa,
Very limited parking and not everyone knows it though so there are some arguments for a more central location.
