Game on

A couple of days ago I wrote a blog post outlining my thoughts about organising some sort of monthly 'geek' event in Reading. In the post I said...

If we get at least ten people who can attend and one person who can present something then it's game-on & I will rustle up a venue and all the other bits & pieces to make it work.

Since then 16 people have signed up as interested on the wiki (if you haven't signed up yet please do) , more have followed the twitter account and at least one person has made an offer to do a talk at the first event (thankyou)!

Im taking that as evidence that there is enough interest in the community to make this work. So over the next week or so I am going to work on the following...

  1. When: Rather than debate this one I'm going to arbitrarily say that Reading Geek Night will be on the second Tuesday of the month (on the basis that venues should be easier to secure early in the week and it doesn't clash with other local events as far as I'm aware). That means the first one will be on Tuesday 10th November.
  2. Where: I will have a think about suitable venues - if you can think of somewhere which would work then let me know. Also there is a section on the wiki for venue requirements. If you think of something that we will need then just add it there.
  3. What: The format is still up for debate - We don't need to decide on anything concrete right now. What would be good is if you could think about topics for talks / case studies etc. What would be even better is if you felt you could do a talk - Max 15 mins (but a 5 min demo would be cool too). If you would like to present something then give me a shout and we can take things from there.

Game on.
